Alan Lee Dobyns, 82, of Milford, beloved husband of Haroula (Mihaelidou) Dobyns, passed away on April 2, 2025. Born on March 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Lee Roy and Elouise (Woodall) Dobyns. Alan graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and went on to earn a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Seattle University. He worked at Boeing Aircraft for fifteen years before moving to Connecticut to work at Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked as a structural and materials engineer for 25 years. One of the projects he did was research for the catamaran that won the Americas Cup in Australia. During retirement he ran and played in the Sikorsky Table Tennis Club. He also worked as a volunteer in the Sikorsky Archives and at the National Helicopter Museum in Stratford, CT. Alan had obtained his pilot license and enjoyed flying. He also traveled with his wife to several European countries, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and South America. In addition to his beloved wife, Alan is survived by his step-children, Catrina Ciufecu, Valeria Ciufecu Broadley, and Mita Ciufecu and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Raymond and Amanda Ciufecu; brother, Lynn Dobyns; and niece, Mandy Dobyns Krnavek. Alan was predeceased by his granddaughter, Michele Ciufecu Broadley. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson Foundation at parkinson.org.
