George Brandt III was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the age of 85. George was born on July 26, 1940, in Holman, Texas to George and Gertrude (Trefny) Brandt. From his lifelong home in Holman, he could see the homes of his father and grandfather and fulfilled their legacy, one of hard work and service. This legacy is now passed to his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
George was a graduate of the La Grange High School Class of 1958. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. After being discharged, he enrolled in Texas A&M University, but soon felt called to begin his farming operation in Holman. He planted and harvested row crops of corn, milo, cotton, and wheat. In addition, he worked at M-G Feed, Inc. for more than twenty years. He also raised a successful beef cattle herd that allowed him to say that he never truly retired.
His commitment to service was evident in his long involvement with several organizations. He was proud to serve as a member and president of the Holman Farm Bureau and the Weimar Noon Lions Club, to sit on the Board of Directors of Fayette Savings Bank, and especially for his 48 years on the Colorado Valley Communications Board.
George was a lifelong member of the Weimar United Church of Christ where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. It was there that Vera Vornsand caught his eye. She would later become his adoring wife and life partner of 62 years. They were blessed with three daughters who helped them grow their family with children and grandchildren of their own.
George Brandt is survived by his wife Vera Vornsand Brandt; daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Chuck Bellue, Robin and David Hutchison, and Wendy and Brian Miles; Grandchildren Josh Bellue, Emily and Kenneth Scott, Hannah and Nathan Holub, George Thomas Hutchison and fiancé Macey Wilton, Avery Hutchison, Hayden Miles, and Jacob Miles; and five great-grandchildren: Charlie Lopez, Sophia Bellue, Josh, Juls, and Finley Bellue. His sister Virginia Ulrich survives as does his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harvey and Linda Vornsand. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Alvin and Katie Vornsand, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ore Nell and Alfred Frerichs, Berry Lou and Leonard Stech, Eugene Ulrich and great-grandson, Coby Bellue.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations of La Grange with the family present at this time to receive friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the Weimar United Church, 403 W Main St. Weimar, Texas at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Burial will follow at the Weimar Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Weimar United Church, Hospice Brazos Valley or the charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.
