Alan Eugene Groves, 67, of Evansville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday October 8th with his wife and daughter by his side.
Alan was born on January 4, 1958, in Evansville to the late Clarence Groves Jr. and Eleanor (Wright) Groves. He was a 1976 graduate of Harrison High School. Alan was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Los Angeles Dodgers.
He worked for the Vanderburgh County Highway Department for 35 years prior to retiring in 2020. He gave his time serving on numerous boards including the Board of Zoning Appeals and Evansville Endowment Fund.
Surviving Alan is his loving wife of 42 years, Annie (Eickhoff) Groves; a daughter and daughter-in-law, Beth and Margaret Giesel; brothers Bob Groves, Tom (Kathy) Groves and John (Deb) Groves; his brother-in-law, Keith (Anita) Eickhoff, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and chosen family.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by brothers, William and Stephen Groves and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary Ann Eickhoff and Charles Eickhoff.
He was a kind and gentle man who loved being with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 13, 2025, Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 613 Cherry Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
Alan's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary and John Parish, 613 Cherry Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
