Melvin Schulz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierre Funeral Home on Feb. 23, 2026.
Melvin C. "Tootie" Schulz, 84, passed away on February 22, 2026. Born on February 10, 1942, Melvin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He was the husband of Doris (Knoop) Schulz, sharing a remarkable 63-year marriage. Together, Melvin and Doris raised three sons: Tim (Kristi), Keith (Jennifer), and Curt (Jen). Melvin's love for family extended to his grandchildren, Kasi Schulz, Tara Schulz (Tyler Collins), Ashleigh Scott (Jeff), Alissa Schulz, and Alex Schulz, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ramsey Scott and Hudson Scott. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Jane (Kenneth) Seebode.

Melvin graduated from Reitz High School, Class of 1960, cherishing memories and friendships formed during those years. He was a dedicated follower of Reitz Football. He frequently recounted Reitz's glory days to his sons.

Melvin dedicated forty years to CSX Railroad, faithfully serving in a variety of roles. Through hard work, integrity, and leadership, he rose through the ranks, becoming known as "The Ace" Trainmaster. His commitment to excellence and his colleagues left a lasting mark on the railroad community.

Melvin was a proud, lifelong Democrat who stood strong in his convictions and enjoyed following and debating politics.

A man of faith, Melvin was an active member of several congregations, including Howell General Baptist, Twelfth Avenue General Baptist, and Blue Ridge Baptist in Alabama. He exemplified Christian values through his kindness, honesty, and generosity toward all.

Melvin "Tootie" Schulz leaves his family and friends with years of memories and stories.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Evansville Rescue Mission (donate.evansvillerescuemission.org).
