Dr. Alan James Ziobrowski, age 73, of Morganton, GA, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, October 21, 2023 after eleven years with Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Ziobrowski was born July 27, 1950, in Rochester, NY to the late James Ziobrowski and the late Marion Wyand.

He is survived by his wife, Brigitte Ziobrowski; daughter, Amy Swinford; son-in-law Mark Swinford; son, Aaron Ziobrowski; daughter, Ashley Ziobrowski; daughter, Aurora Ziobrowski; daughter, Alexis Ziobrowski; brother, Tommy Ziobrowski; sister-in-law, Kathy Ziobrowski; sister, Marilyn Freeman; brother-in-law, Denis Freeman; and grandchildren, Evelyn & Eleanor Swinford.

Alan began his career as an engineer at the energy provider Babcock and Wilcox, where he served for 15 years.  He loved to tell a good story, and one of his favorites was how he pivoted to a career in academia by pursuing a PhD at Kent State University where he met the love of his life.  He went on to have a distinguished career as a professor at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, where he found tremendous fulfillment in mentoring graduate students and in becoming a little bit famous for his research on insider trading in Congress.

He will always be remembered for his 'beloved' cranberry mold, his impeccable tomahawk chop at Braves' baseball games, having the fullest head of hair anyone ever saw, his embarrassing penchant for conversion vans, endless enthusiasm for playing with kids and grandkids in the pool, making himself laugh so hard he had to bang on the table or chair to let it all out, and above all, his love for his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research

A memorial service will be held in Marietta, GA for family and close friends.
