Joseph Edward Ziobrowski of Charlotte, North Carolina died peacefully at home on December 24, 2025 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joe was born in Putnam, Connecticut in 1957 to Edward and Jeanette Ziobrowski where he lived throughout his childhood. His 3 older siblings; Ann, John and Stef each played an important role in his childhood. He graduated from Putnam High School, received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland, and a MBA in Investment Finance from the University of Hartford.
Joe started his career in finance at Aetna Life & Casualty. He and a group of partners formed Charter Oak Capital Management. He later joined MassMutual’s subsidiary Babson Capital Management which later became Barings. When he retired after 30 years at Barings/MassMutual, it was said that he left the organization better than where he found it. Joe was an admired colleague who was a mentor and friend to his co-workers. He was a walking financial encyclopedia who got things done quickly, efficiently, and with a wonderful calmness about him. Though family came first, he treated his co-workers as if they were his family and never hesitated to help a co-worker in need.
Joe married Susan Bourgeois in 1980 and deeply loved his family. He loved to travel (Cape Cod and Key West were favorites), listen to Jimmy Buffet or music from his very impressive music collection, cook and do his own landscaping. Joe and Sue recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. They were not only husband and wife but best friends.
Joe and his son Michael shared a special bond both working at Barings and were often found talking “shop” or about pretty much anything. He and his daughter Alison were always comparing recipes for the best hummingbird fluid or cheering on/complaining about their favorite teams. He was passionate about sports throughout his life; as a child and through high school he enjoyed baseball, basketball, cross-country and track & field. As an adult, he enjoyed golf, ran the Seven Mile Bridge race in the Florida Keys, and completed the Newport Marathon. He shared his passion for sports with his children and grandchildren coaching their teams or playing in the back yard. He loved to watch the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Giants, whether it was on TV or in person, he supported them no matter their records! He was often found rolling around on the floor, playing sports in the backyard, or coming up with creative “Joe” games with his grandchildren.
Joe and Susan relocated to Charlotte, NC in 2018. He truly enjoyed the climate, his neighbors, people and culture of North Carolina. He was a quiet philanthropist and supported many causes. He was also a regular donor of blood and platelets to the American Red Cross.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Edward and Jeanette, his brother-in-law David Barbour, and his father-in-law Benny Auger. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son Michael Ziobrowski and his wife Tishara, his daughter Alison and her husband Jeffrey Doyon. His six grandchildren Liam, Evan, Nolan, Taylor, Addison and Elijah. His brother John (Sue) Ziobrowski, his sisters Ann (Tom) Parziale and Stef Ziobrowski. His mother in law Anne Auger, and his in-laws Luke and Kathleen Strunk, Neil and Ellen Bourgeois, and Dan and Carol Still. Along with his many nieces and nephews. Joe has touched many lives in different ways and will be missed by all.
The Ziobrowski family welcomes you to join a celebration of the life of Joe Ziobrowski for family, friends, and co-workers. We will host an event in Charlotte, NC and another in Glastonbury, CT.
