Albert "Dale" Kettring, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Northwest Health-La Porte.
He was born July 24, 1929, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Ervin Kettring and Erma (Coconour) Kettring.
A lifelong resident of the area, Albert received his master's in education from Purdue University and went on to teach sixth-grade math and science for many years. Albert also served in the United States Army during WWII.
He loved to sing and was quite a square dancer, which is how he met the love of his life, Doris Mae Volstorf. On Aug. 27, 1950, at New Carlisle Community Church, they were married.
Albert, or Dale as he was known to many, was a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church. He coached basketball and would spend his summers doing carpentry work. Dale was an avid camper, loved to travel, enjoyed music, woodworking and reading. His greatest passion though was his love of God, his faith and his family. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his three daughters, Darlene Kay (Daniel) Lowe of New Carlisle, Indiana, Diana Sue Stovall of La Porte, Indiana, and Donna Jean (Michael) Ziegler of Woodburn, Indiana; two sons, Dale Alan (Judy) Kettring of Union Dale, Indiana, and Darrel Lee (Kathi) Kettring of Three Oaks, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Kristy (Titus) Lloyd, Nathanael (Julia) Kettring, Bree (Todd) Steffen, Aaron Stovall, Chad (Diane) Ziegler, Derek Ziegler, Jacob (Amber) Kettring, Eryka Kettring, Aimee (Todd) Nguyen, Rachael Lowe and Wyatt (Sarah) Lowe; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Doris; and his sisters, Jean Nawrocki and Ruth Burrus.
