Albert Lee Hundt of Chesaning, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the age of 84. He lived a love-filled life, touching the hearts of all who knew him with kindness and laughter, always willing to give others a helping hand. Al was a very righteous man and respected everyone.
He was preceded in death by his father & mother, Ludwig & Ethel Hundt, Brother James Hundt, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles & Charlotte Markell, sister-in-law, Carolyn Harris, son-in-law, Steven Slater.
He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 63 years, Vera Kay Hundt. Daughters Joy (Les) Klasek, Sherri Slater, Dawn (Burton) Thurston. Grandchildren, Matthew McKay, Jake (Katie) Slater, Devin (Jessica) Thurston, Justin (Alexandria) Thurston. Great Grandchildren, Falyn & Logan McKay, Jazlyn & Thomas Spring, Lennox Thurston. Brothers & Sisters, Sue (Hancy) Larock, Mary Romanowski, Bob (Cheryl) Hundt, Linda Beyers, Nancy (John) Damoth. Brother-in-law, Lloyd (Janice) Markell. Many cousins, nieces & nephews.
On August 7, 1941, Albert was born to Ludwig and Ethel (Ealy) Hundt in Royal Oak, MI. He lived in many places throughout his formative years, having many stories of his time living in Tustin, Michigan on the farm just down the road from his Vokes cousins. Albert married the love of his life Vera Markell on June 23, 1962, at Holy Trinity Church in Bay City, Michigan. They raised three beautiful daughters together. He would later go on to be a hobby farmer, enjoying many wonderful days with his wife and family at their home away from home farm in Skidway Lake, MI. Times at the farm, around the fire, playing cards with his family always resulted in story after story. He loved to tell stories. He was full of history. That history included his passion for restoring John Deere tractors and old cars, especially his 1948 John Deere G and 1953 Chevy Bel-Air. He could fix anything! He also loved to take his wife and himself on long Harley Davidson motorcycle rides. He loved his wife and daughters very much and was very proud of them all. Those daughters blessed him with four wonderful grandsons. He spent every opportunity with them at tractor pulls, watching them play sports, playing cards or helping open Jake's ETA shows. He loved it all.
Albert was an experienced Journeyman Machinist and worked for General Motors for 29 years before retiring at the tender age of 59 years old. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 659. He and Vera went on to enjoy retirement and traveled all over our great country, resulting in many more stories and laughs to share with his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM, with the Rosary at 7:00pm at McGeehan Funeral Home Martin Chapel, 316 W. Broad Street, Chesaning, Michigan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 19, at St. Peter Parish, 404 S. Wood Street, Chesaning, Michigan.
