ALBERT KAISER Obituary

ALBERT RICHARD KAISER

May 27, 1933 – Jan. 26, 2025

Albert Richard Kaiser, 91, passed away on Jan. 26, 2025, in Carlsbad, CA. Albert was born in Brawley, CA, on May 27, 1933. He was the only son of Axel and Lou Kaiser. The family moved to El Centro when Al was a young boy, and he graduated from Central Union High School in 1951. Upon graduating, Al earned his pilot's license and flew for a crop-dusting company in Imperial Valley. Al joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953, attending Aviation Cadet School. Upon earning his U.S. Air Force wings, he returned to El Centro to marry his high school sweetheart, Janice Hurley, in 1954, and they began their lifelong journey together.

Albert led a remarkable life filled with dedication and service to our country. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel during his distinguished career. Al initially trained as a fighter pilot upon entering active duty, but transitioned to the B-26, KC-97, and C-118 airplanes, and eventually settled into flying the C-130 Hercules for much of his career. A dedicated patriot, Albert served in the Vietnam War, displaying unwavering courage and commitment to country. He was deeply respected by fellow service members for his flying expertise and leadership capabilities. Al received numerous awards and decorations, including the prestigious David C. Schilling trophy for outstanding flight, the Meritorious Service Medal, along with numerous Airman Medals for exceptional contributions to our nation's defense.

Albert retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1979, and subsequently flew for a commercial airline for 10 years. In retirement, Al became a general contractor, building homes in the San Diego and Palm Desert areas. After living in numerous locations around the country, Al and Janice settled permanently in San Diego County. Al, along with Janice, created a wonderful life for their family in each place they lived. Al was proud of all they had accomplished in their life together and was grateful for their beautiful family and lifelong friends.

Albert is survived by his sons, Richard, Jeffrey, and Craig; his sister, Joyce; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; father, Axel; mother, Lou; and sister, Ollie.

A memorial service to honor Albert's and Janice's life will be held on February 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the San Diego Humane Society in memory of Albert and Janice Kaiser.
