Albert "Al" E. Kunst, of Stevens Point, passed away on July 30, 2024, at Maple Ridge Living Center in Plover, at the age of 88.
Al was born April 3, 1936, in Birnamwood, WI; son of the late Deitrich and Florence (Pierzchalski) Kunst. He grew up in the area alongside his five siblings, including a twin brother, Tony, whom he did many things with. In 1954, he proudly graduated from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School.
After high school, Al joined the workforce. He worked in the railroad industry for many years as a dispatcher for The Soo Line and Central Wisconsin Railroad. While this career took him to various areas of the Midwest, his greatest support system was his wife, Florence "Flo" Hauschultz. On October 19, 1957, Al and Flo were united in marriage in Marion, WI. In time, the two welcomed four beautiful children and the family finally settled in Stevens Point, and remained in the area. Al and Flo were blessed with 66 years as husband and wife, until Flo's passing in December of 2023. In his later years, Al was very active in the Loyal Order of the Moose. At one point, he was the governor of the lodge in Stevens Point, and worked his way up the ladder to achieve Pilgrim status, the highest level of honor. Being involved in the Moose Lodge was something he and Flo participated in together.
While Al was a dedicated husband and father, he also enjoyed displaying his musical skills. He had his own Polka band, "Al Kunst and the Cordotones", where he played the accordion. If being in a Polka band wasn't enough, he loved to simply listen to Polka music as well. Al also enjoyed being outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing. He also stayed active in other sports such as bowling and golfing. Al's fun loving spirit found joy in helping others in any way he could and sharing his memories with them, telling his beloved fishing and polka stories.
Al is survived by his children, Dennis (Doris) Kunst, Annette (Steve) Lassa, and Howard (Kelly) Kunst; his grandchildren, Nate (Wendy) Lassa, Michael Lassa, Jennifer (John) Kurlinkus, and Jeremy Kunst; his great-grandchildren, Emmit and Wesley; and his step-great-grandchild, Jed.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Flo; his parents, Deitrich and Florence; his son, Donald Kunst; his brother, Edward Kunst; and his twin brother, Anton "Tony" Kunst.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at Maple Ridge Living Center for the wonderful care given to Al and his family.
A funeral service will be held for Al at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church - 1410 Rogers St., Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Shuda Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Al's family. He was a great friend during my years in Moose Lodge 1572. We had many laughs together, and with his hard work and dedication made the lodge a great organization to belong to.
