Albert W. "Al" Marvel

Albert W. "Al" Marvel, age 78, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Al was the youngest child of Albert C. and Dorothy E. Marvel. In 1961, after attending Cardinal Dougherty High School he enlisted at age 17 in the United States Air Force serving honorably for the next eight years.
First assigned to Misawa Air Force Base, Japan, he met and married Kishi, his wife and loving partner of 58 years. From 1967 to 1968, he completed a tour of duty with the 820th Civil Engineer Squadron (Red Horse) at Tuy Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Upon completion of his military service Al pursued his professional passion working with computers and IT systems, culminating in a 30-year career with Artesian Water when he retired as Manager of Information Systems.
Al's quiet pride in being a father and family man was as unequivocal as his love, supporting us throughout the accomplishments and challenges of our lives. Many volunteer hours were dedicated to coaching little league and Newark Babe Ruth Baseball League. Untold hours were spent on ball fields or in school gyms, camera or video camera in hand, capturing the moments of our lives. "Dad", "Uncle Al", "Pop-pop", "Grandaddy" is Al's legacy.
Al was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; sons, Richard (Lisa), William (Cindy), and James (Denise); grandchildren, Christopher, Preston, Owen, Robin, James, Erin, and Sam; sister, Dorothy A. Garr (Paul Sr.); nieces, Maria (Paul), and Christine (Bill); and nephew, Paul Jr. (Courage).
A funeral service and inurnment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
