Albert Claiborne Page's journey on this earth ended April 25 in Hampton, allowing him to return to his Father's house.
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was,
and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." – Ecclesiastes 12:7
Best known as Scrappy, Albert was born Nov. 12, 1935. He was the oldest child of the late Herman Claiborne and Bessie Althea (Johnson) Page. Albert attended Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1955. A year later he married his high school sweetheart Arlene Virginia Jones.
Their 66-year union took them from the States to Asia to Europe then back home to Virginia with three girls as Albert served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, including assignments in Vietnam and Korea. He received many awards and commendations before retiring at Langley AFB as a senior master sergeant. Albert went on to work 16 years at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. Throughout his life, Scrappy enjoyed bowling, playing dominoes, and swapping stories with his brothers – some true, some not.
He is preceded in death by siblings, Wilbur, Herman, Esther and Nina. In addition to his wife, Arlene, Scrappy leaves behind daughters, Karen Page Witter, Lynda Page-Hughes (Phil) and Peggy Page; grandchildren, Ahmad Watkins, Nikohl Porter-Perry (Sean), Brandon Fleury, Keimon Page, Cherie Witter and Naya Page-Hughes; great-grandsons, Cameron and Cairo Porter-Perry; siblings, Bettie Ann (Al) Alexander, Henry (Renae), George (Joann), Andrea Coles, Robert, Carl (Iris) and Eric (Carolyn); sisters-in-law, Irene and Helen; devoted nephew, Darryl; countless nieces and nephews; and special friends Ron and Drew.
Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
