Albert M. Sullivan, 89, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away early Sunday morning, April 14, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Constance W. Sullivan; three daughters, Theresa Chamblee (John) of
Villa Rica, GA, Maureen Peal (Greg) of
Temple, GA, Kathleen Mabry (Ted) of
Naples, FL; nine grandchildren, David Fellows (Laura) and Bobby Fellows (Keri) both of Portland, OR, Kelly Fellows (Jesse) of
Douglasville, GA, Jason Peal of Marietta, GA, Matt Peal (Lauren) of
Dallas, TX, Brian Mabry (Megan) and Kristin Tepper (Alex), both of Boston, MA, and Caroline Allbritton (Sam) of
Carrollton, GA; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Agnes Sullivan, and granddaughter Michelle Fellows.
Albert was born in New Britain, CT, in 1934, the only child of Albert V. Sullivan (1895- 1949) and Agnes Fanning (1896-1985). He attended grammar school and high school in Springfield, Mass, and graduated from the College of The Holy Cross (Worcester, MA). He completed an MBA at Fairfield University (CT). He served in the U.S. Navy (1956-1962) as a naval intelligence officer in the South Atlantic (Turks and Caicos) and North Atlantic (Nantucket). After his time in the US Navy, he joined the family business, Springfield Armored Car Service in Massachusetts, eventually taking over as President of the company. He sold the business to Wells Fargo in the 1970s and moved to
Charlotte, NC, and eventually
Roswell, GA, as a salesman for the Wells Fargo Armored Car business. In the 1980s, Al and Connie returned to their roots as small business owners with a Kwik Kopy Printing franchise, which they operated in Marietta, GA until retirement in the late1990s.
Al and Connie were blessed with a long and active retirement in
Douglasville, GA. They played golf at Chapel Hills and other clubs in Georgia. They enjoyed playing the amateur senior golf tournament circuit in the Southeast US. They also loved spending time with family and friends and traveling.
Throughout his life, Albert was engaged in communities where he lived as a member and/or leader of organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Civitan, small business associations, and church groups. He was a life-long and devoted member of the Catholic Church, most recently attending St. John Vianney Catholic Church in
Douglasville, GA. At the time of his death, he was a 3rd degree member of Council 12580 of the Knights of Columbus, Lithia Springs, GA. He was a steadfast, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and patriot of the USA who will be greatly missed. His family takes great comfort and solace in knowing he was a faithful, loyal follower of Jesus Christ during his life. May He Rest in Peace! Well done good and faithful servant!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, with the grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
