Albert (Al) J. Weiland

Age 83, a beloved father and grandfather from Burnsville, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 17, 2025. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 3-5 PM at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation in Shakopee. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4625 W. 125th St, Savage, on Monday, September 22, at 10:30 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Private family graveside services will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, in Mendota Heights, MN.

Al was born on January 7, 1942, in Watertown, MN as the eldest of 11 children to parents Albert B. and Bernice R. (Weinzierl) Weiland. He was raised in St. Bonifacius, MN and attended St. Boniface Catholic School and Waconia High School, graduating in 1960. Al served on active duty in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a skilled tool and die worker and was employed for several decades at Tonka Toys and later at Taber Bushnell.

Al's greatest treasure was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Mary, of 41 years and a cherished father to his three children (Erin, Shawn, and Tim), and grandfather to his grandchildren, Charlie (7), Josie (5), Elijah (2), and Joshua (6 months).

Al loved spending summer vacations at the family cabin on Lake Alice near Park Rapids, MN. He was an amateur astronomer and master griller, gardener, and handyman; his backyard vegetable garden was his oasis, and he poured his heart into hand-crafting landscapes for his wife's Department 56 Christmas villages and special toys for his children and grandchildren.

Al's Catholic faith was evident in his kindness, empathy, and dedication toward his family. He went to great lengths to make each person feel loved and special. He will be remembered for his humor, sweetness, endless generosity, and compassion.

Al was preceded 6 weeks in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Albert and Bernice Weiland; brothers Dick and Tom Weiland; father and mother-in-law George and M. Patricia Huber, and sisters-in-law Ann Miller, Maureen Weiland, and Sue Weiland. Al is survived by his children Erin (David), Shawn (Anna), and Tim (Natalia); grandchildren Charlie, Josie, Elijah, and Joshua; brothers and sisters John (Robin), Steve, Leon (Kathy), Paul, Mary (Steve), Cecilia, Eddie, and Karen (Leo); brothers and sisters-in-law Judy (Paul) Erhardt, Dick Miller, and Sue H. Weiland, and many nieces and nephews.

Al's family would like to extend their appreciation to the many friends and family who supported him in his battle with cancer this past year.
