Who knew his last act of service would involve Wendy's for his newly-college-enrolled son he was so proud of? When asked if he needed a hand his response never failed to be, "No, but I need a foot!" (following a leg amputation in 2022). Albert "Al" Alan Williams, or known in the online gaming world as "Al Calavici," in reference to his and his daughter's favorite show Quantum Leap, was born on July 16, 1961 in Sterling, Colorado to Albert Sabas Williams and Mildred "Millie" Mae Williams (Haas). He was the 5th in the line up of siblings, preceded by Janis, Katie, Julie, and Kenny, and succeeded by Chris. He grew up in a house where his parents taught accordion and he would torment his older sisters by pulling them in the bathtub while they read to him which was repaid in full by his younger brother destroying some of the hundreds of models he spent his allowance on and many hours perfecting- a love he would later share with his daughter. Al joined his sister Katie on the wheat harvest traveling from North Dakota to Texas in his high school summers. After graduating from Ranum high school in 1979 and a brief period as a dispatcher, Al joined the Air Force where he worked in security forces, to begin following his life-long dream of becoming a police officer. He remembered his father talking to a police officer when he was a child and asked his father who it was. He immediately knew this is what he wanted to do with his life! After finishing his service in 1984, he moved to California to make his dream a reality. He started as a reserve deputy, donating his time to serving and protecting the Yolo County community while putting himself through the police academy and working three jobs. Al was never afraid of an adventure and would do whatever it took to make not only his own dreams come true, but the dreams of his loved ones as well. Beth will never forget when he dropped her off to ride her first motorcycle home, never having ridden one before or allowing her to take Kim's garage space with a crappy 1971 VW Beetle, Josh will never forget building his first computer together, including an accidentally-ruined CPU, and Kim will never forget her early ride alongs which, on one memorable occasion, he got his patrol car stuck in the dirt or the day he asked her out, to which she responded, "My dad's going to sh**" and he asked if that was a "good or a bad thing?" Al spent his years as a Yolo County Deputy and Sergeant in several assignments including YONET (picture Pablo Escobar with long hair), boats and search and rescue (his swimming skills were unmatched), detention (during which an inmate asked "who cut your hair, a blind guy?" when in fact it was his mother-in-law), and many other assignments in which he served his community and supported his peers. He was loved by those he worked with and was always the man you could come to for advice, even when unwarranted (yes, this is his daughter writing this). He met his wife Kim Merrie Williams (Beoshanz) in 1990 on a police call, of course, and thought her "cowboy boots were interesting," which is not the story his partner PJ, "the doolanator", as Al called her, would tell… They married in 1993 and created a life of never-ending adventure and "crazy" ideas and dreams with their children Elizabeth "Beth" Katheryn Yakimow (Williams), born in 1998, and Joshuah "Josh" Kenneth Williams, born in 2005. His "Papa hugs," never-ending and often gruesome cop humor, and acts of service and love toward his family will be greatly missed daily. His love for "B movie" horror films, Outlaw Country, and constant starts to (but not-always-finished) projects will live on through his family. Our last memories of him are some of the happiest, funniest, and most joyful memories of our lives with him. We love you, Papa/"Hubby"/Al, and your love of the oddest parts of life will live on through all of us. In memory of Al, have a Sunkist orange soda, a roll of Necos candy, cook from the heart- no recipes allowed, watch a classic Universal monsters movie, read To Kill a Mocking Bird, and listen to "I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado" by John Denver in honor of the home he'll always love.
