Verdun Family Funeral Home & Cremation ServicesAlberta Kay (Rolston) McInnis, age 84, of Reed City, Michigan, was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior on August 8, 2025. She was born on February 16, 1941, at home in Barton Township, Newaygo County, daughter of David Alvin and Mary Elizabeth (Hoffman) Rolston, both of whom preceded her in death. Alberta attended Davenport Country School and like many of her generation, went to work at an early age. One of those jobs was waitressing at the Nestle Inn in Reed City, where she met, Robert M. McInnis, with whom she would exchange vows and share 62 years of marriage with prior to his passing in 2023. She then worked in the Dietary Department for many years and retired from Reed City Hospital (now Corewell Health Hospital). Alberta not only cooked at work but also loved to bake and cook for her family at home, including countless Sunday dinners featuring her famous roast beef, potatoes and gravy and tossed salad. She was a social butterfly and would venture out with anyone who would take her on a trip, visit or errand. She was a regular for coffee at McDonalds and lunch dates at the area restaurants. Alberta especially enjoyed going to dances In Reed City and the surrounding communities. She and her sister, Jo Ellen, would venture out, no matter the weather to see a band her brother played in called “Ridge Runners” and needed to be rescued from at least one ice storm with help getting home. She was a long-term member of First Baptist Church of Reed City, had a beautiful smile and spirit and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Alberta leaves to cherish her memory, her loving family including her children, Mary (Mike), Robert (Rose), Jeff (Doug), and Beth (Bill); grandchildren, Amber (Jason), Jeremy (Kyleen), Jayson (Ruby), Jackie (Sal), Brandon (Becca), and Megan (Scott); great grandchildren, Alyson, Emily, Evan, Brooklyn, Owen, Evelyn, Isla and Eden; a sister-in-law Ruby Rolston and a brother-in-law Jerry (Mary) McInnis; very dear, long-term “besties” Mary Alexander and Geri Allers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her seven siblings.
Services will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 4151 Wild Turkey Trail, Reed City, Michigan 49677, with Pastor Lee Lennox officiating. The family will greet visitors beginning at 11 AM and the Service will begin at 12 Noon. A luncheon will follow the service at church and burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City.
