I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7-8
ALBERTA LAWRENCE NIX, the fifth child of nine children, was born to the late Louis Lawrence, Sr. and Princess Childs Lawrence in the Basin community of Lucedale, MS. At an early age, she united with Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Basin, MS. Shortly thereafter, she accepted the Lord as her savior. She would always share her born again experience with anyone who had a listening ear.
Alberta was a high school graduate in Beaumont, MS Perry County. She became a Certified Cosmetologist from MAT PORO Beauty College, Hattiesburg, MS in 1963. Certified Spiritual Counselor from Lift Bible College, Ocean Springs, MS, Certified Nurse's Assistant, and member of Susanna Wesley Fellowship, Mississippi Conference Seashore District.
Alberta was married to the love of her life, Amos Nix, in 1950. She moved her church membership to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, in the Vernal community to unite with her husband. In the late 1960's she and her husband/family relocated to Moss Point. In searching for a church home, St. Paul United Methodist Church became her choice for the family. She was a faithful member, singing in the choir, and was a lay speaker.
The move to Moss Point also presented an opportunity for Alberta to open her own beauty shop – Bert's Beauty Salon. She said, "The Lord gave me this shop so that I can help show someone to Christ, while I'm doing their hair". While in the shop with her customers, she talked about love. She said, "It's easy to say you love, but unless you have been born of the Spirit of Christ, you don't know love. Years later she worked for Jackson County Exceptional School in Pascagoula, MS and Gulf Coast Nursing in Moss Point, MS.
Alberta quietly transitioned from this earth on January 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev.
