Alberta Ann Semke
Date Of Birth: 02/16/1931
Date of Death: 02/08/2024
Born in Nadeau, Michigan to Alex and Pearl Dubey of Menominee, Michigan, Alberta was raised in Menominee and graduated from Menominee High School. She was elected Air Queen of the Upper Peninsula in her youth and represented her region in Detroit, Michigan.
Prior to marriage she worked at the Menominee Spies Library, the Marinette Newspaper in Marinette, MI as well as the Mongomery Ward in Menominee, MI. She married Richard Semke in Menominee, MI on January 12, 1952. After their first child was born she dedicated her life to being a homemaker and companion to all for the rest of her life.
Together they had six children: Richard Todd (Elizabeth) of Beaverton, Oregon, Mary Beth Semke-Borts (Steven) of Hillsboro, Oregon, Thomas Jeffrey Semke (Stephanie) of Portland, Oregon, Lynn Marie Semke-Goss (David) of Ridgefield, Washington, Bryan Ted Semke (Kathryn) of Florence, Alabama and Sally Jo Semke Plasker (Gerry) of Aloha, Oregon.
The family moved to Portland in 1962 on a journey that Alberta described as "taking us to the end of the world". In 1986 the family moved to Salem when their youngest child, Sally Jo, was attending Western Oregon College in Monmouth.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 73 years, Richard Semke; her six children and their spouses, 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Her interests in life were reading, playing bridge, swimming and being there for everyone that needed her. She always said that her greatest accomplishment was her family, her marriage, her children all happily married to their original spouses, the grandchildren and great grandchildren all made her so happy and proud to say that they were hers and made her life most worth while.
