Albertha "Birdie" Loomans

Albertha "Birdie" Loomans, age 95, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior-whom she loved and served faithfully all her life-on Sunday, September 21, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her grandson's home, where she had spent the final weeks of her life.

Born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1930, Birdie met Arg and married him at the age of 18. She was the beloved wife of the late Arg Loomans. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage until Arg's passing in 2009. She was a devoted mother of two children, Kim (Pylman) Saxton, who preceded her in death in 2012, and Kevin Loomans (Tammi). In 1963, they moved their young family to West Michigan where they planted roots and raised their children.

Birdie was a natural caregiver and nurturer. Whether working in nursing homes or opening their home to foster children, she had a servant's heart.

She was beyond proud of her 5 grandsons, their wives and her 12 great-grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Pylman and their children: Nadia, Mckenzie and Harrison, Travis (Miranda) Pylman and their children: Paisley and Bentley, Brad Loomans and his children: Dustin, Mason and Gavin, Cory (Heather) Loomans and their children: Lance and Lainey, Jake (Abby) Loomans and their children: Beau and Isla.

Birdie is also survived by her dear sister, Julene, who held a special place in her heart. Birdie shared her faith to all, was a friend to many and an easy person to love, which was evident in her relationship with her friend, Vicky, who loved Birdie like a mother.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to West Michigan Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care in Birdie's final days. A service for Birdie will be held Thursday, September 25, at 12:30pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508 with Rev. Talman Wagenmaker officiating. Relatives and friends may meet her family at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24, from 6-8pm and on Thursday from 11:15am-12:15pm prior to the service. There will be a luncheon following the service at the funeral home and a private burial for family members following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Right to Life of MI or South Christian High School.
