Alene dedicated her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her fudge won a blue ribbon at the Madison County Fair. She always made the family holiday gatherings special with her wonderful food. Christmas was particularly special with all the cookie baking and beautiful Christmas decorations.

She was active in her children's lives as a Girl Scout leader and frequently volunteered at school parties and events. Alene was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Thyra (nee Graff) Vancil; her brother, Karl Vancil; her sister, Patsy (Genaro) Badajos; and a niece, Denise Badajos.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Howard Schuette of Edwardsville, IL; her daughters: Lynn (Mark) Allard of Troy, IL, and Deborah Schuette of Millstadt, IL; her sons: Scott (Lisa) Schuette of Highland, IL, and Kurt (Chandra Kuhlmann) Schuette of Maryville, IL; and her grandchildren: Eric Allard of Collinsville, IL, Rachel (David) Bult of Alton, IL, and Kevin Schuette of Highland, IL.
