Steven Craig Simmons, 76, of Maryville, IL, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at his residence with family by his side.

He was born on October 9, 1949, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late Eugene and Ellen May (nee MackCade) Simmons. He was raised by a loving stepfather, Donald Hardy. Steven was a 1968 graduate of Belleville East High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from U.S. Steel after many years of dedicated service as a control specialist.

Steven loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and camping in the "Miss Minnow" camper at Carlyle Lake, as well as on trips to California and Colorado. He also enjoyed hunting and sharing countless special moments with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, and his sister, Vicki Simmons.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Jody (nee Conley) Mattea, whom he married on September 12, 2012; his daughters, Stacy (Aaron) Jedda and Heather Simmons; his son, Steven Michael Simmons; and his stepsons, Derek Mattea and Corey (Danielle) Mattea. He was a proud grandfather to Allysa (Grace) Holster, Madisyn, Camden, Peyton, Jameson, and Gracie, and great-grandfather to Sarafina. He is also survived by his brother, Terry (Suzanne) Simmons, and many dear friends and extended family.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025 at First Baptist Church Maryville, 7110 IL-162, Maryville, IL 62062. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tom Hufty officiating.
