Aletha Faye Smitherman (Wilson) a woman whose heart was as warm as a sunny afternoon and whose spirit was a gentle light to all who knew her passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at the age of 68.
Born on August 13, 1957, in Panama City, Florida Aletha found beauty in the quiet moments of life. She had a deep lifelong affection for hummingbirds, spending many peaceful hours watching them flutter and seamlessly fly about. To her they were a reminder to savor the sweetness of life and to appreciate the fleeting delicate beauty in every day.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father Euretha Paul Smitherman and Edward Duddley Smitherman.
Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her survivors. She is survived by her two children Loretta Marie Robbins and Willie Gene Robbins Jr. She had two sisters, Janice Scurlock and husband James Scurlock, Patricia Nelson and husband Robbie Nelson along with her brother James Smitherman. She also helped raise Shannon Marie Cox and Allen Cox. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as the many friends who became family and many friends of her children who adopted her as a second mom of their own.
Aletha was a faithful member of the Springfield Community Church. This church teaches us that grace is found in patience, Strength is found in gentleness and a life well lived is measured by the love you leave behind. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that we will think of her every time we see those beautiful hummingbirds.
The service will be at Springfield Community Church on January 20, 2026, with visitation beginning at 1 PM service to follow at 2 PM, with graveside burial at Garden of Memories Together Forever Cemetery located on Tyndall Parkway. There will be a gathering at her home to follow with food, family, and friends.
