Alex E. Guelig, Jr. 78, died peacefully at his home on Friday, September 5, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Alex was born on May 27, 1947, in the Town of Marshfield, as the youngest son of the late Alex F. Sr. and Malania (Ditter) Guelig.
On April 14, 1973, Alex married Kathleen Schmitz at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joe.
They were married for 52 years.
Alex was a simple man. He was defined by hard work and helping others. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 8 until his retirement after 42 years. His ironworking career spanned numerous iconic projects, including the construction of the First Wisconsin National Bank building in Milwaukee in the early 1970's and the 2013 renovation of Lambeau Field. He also enjoyed farming, working land, and raising steers which he took great pride in. Alex loved, and was immensely proud of, his children and grandchildren. He was also very fortunate to have many nieces and nephews. There were few days that passed that he wouldn't be helping them out or catching up on the day.
Upon retirement, Alex helped his son, Jason, grow his excavating business into what it is today. He could also be found during many summer weekends grilling for Perl's at Road America.
Alex is survived by Kathleen Guelig, his wife; four children, Jennifer (Scott) Heller of Chilton, Barbara (Michael) Born of St. Cloud, Brian (Kari) Guelig of Eden, Jason (Courtney) Guelig of Mt. Calvary; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, and Ashley Heller, Georgia Guelig, and Vivian, JT, and Olive Guelig; four siblings, Elizabeth (Leander) Ebertz, Stella Whitby, Esther Boehnlein, and Theresa Kiefenheim; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Mary Alice Guelig, John (Agnes) Schmitz, Roger (Doe) Schmitz, Mary Stephany, Shirley Romanowich, and Joseph (Suzy) Schmitz. He is further survived by numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Sr. & Malania (Ditter) Guelig; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Clemens & Ermina (Morgan) Schmitz; two brothers, Joseph Guelig and Harold Guelig; sister, Helen Hoerth; a sister-in-law, Katie Guelig; and five brothers-in-law, David Kiefenheim, David Boehnlein, Wilbur Whitby, Norbert Hoerth, and James Romanowich.
In accordance to Alex's wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
The family wishes to thank everyone who took the time to visit and provide comfort care to Alex during the final stages of his journey, especially his hospice nurse, Katie Wagner. They also wish to thank the St. Cloud First Responders and Mount Calvary EMS for their assistance.
