Myrtle Olig Obituary

Myrtle "Butch" Marie Olig passed away on March 5, 2026, at the Hospice House in Fond du Lac. She was born on May 16, 1936, in Mt. Calvary, the daughter of Steven and Catherine (Schoenborn) Guelig. She graduated from Mt. Calvary Grade School and St. Mary's Springs High School.

On June 1, 1957, she married Melvin Olig at Holy Cross Parish. Together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. Butch was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish.

Butch worked at the Mt. Calvary State Bank/NEBAT and retired in 1997 as the Operations Officer. She loved her job and especially enjoyed the relationships she built with the customers she served. After retirement, she volunteered at Villa Loretta, making weekly visits to spend time with the people there.

Family was always at the center of Butch's life. She and Melvin attended as many sporting events as they could to cheer on their sons and grandchildren, rarely missing a chance to support them.

Butch was captain of the cheerleaders for the Mt. Calvary CYO basketball team and played the saxophone in the marching band for the Mt. Calvary Legion Band. She also enjoyed bowling in the Mt. Calvary Ladies League and bowled with Melvin in the Saturday night couples league.

Later in life, Butch could often be found walking with the birds at 5:00 a.m. each morning. She enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Marquette, and Wisconsin Badgers basketball whenever they were on TV. She also loved reading, doing puzzles, and taking trips to the casino.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, and the joy she found in cheering on those she loved.

Butch is survived by her sons, Michael (Donna), Patrick (Shirley), and Tom (Jody); her grandchildren, Emma Jo (Kaitlin) Olig, Matthew (Katherine) Olig and their daughter Charlotte, Courtney (Joe) Dummer and their children Theodore, Paxton, Lennox, and Rowen, Joseph (Kelly) Olig and their children Emmett, Eli, and Jace, Kalvin (Jenny) Olig and their children Callen and Olivia, Madison Olig, and McKayla Olig; and one brother, Jerry (Sandy) Guelig.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, Steven and Catherine Guelig; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores (Leo) Wirth, Angie (Jerome) Schmitz, and Elsie (Richard) O'Connell.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish – Holy Cross Site, 308 S. County Road W, Mt. Calvary, WI 53057, with Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Calvary at a later date.

Visitation: Friends may gather at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish – Holy Cross Site in Mt. Calvary from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

The family would like to thank the loving care provided by the staff at Villa Rosa and SSM Hospice House. Heartfelt thanks to Sr. Stephen and Sr. Jenada for their friendship and spiritual guidance through Butch's final journey.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in her name. For further details, please contact Sippel Funeral Home in St. Cloud at (920) 999-2291 or visit www.sippelfuneralhome.net.
