Melvin Francis Olig
Oct. 22, 1930 - March 13, 2024
Melvin Francis Olig passed away on March 13, 2024 at the Villa Rosa. He was born on October 22, 1930, in Mt. Calvary, the son of Joseph and Emma Rieden Olig. He graduated from Mt. Calvary Grade School.
He was drafted by the Army in 1952 and served from 1952 to 1954.
On June 1, 1957, he married Myrtle "Butch" Guelig at Holy Cross Parish. Melvin was a member of the St. Anthony Society, Our Lady of the Holyland Parish and helped set up for the Blood Bank.
He worked for the Fond du Lac County Highway Department for most of his working career, retiring in 1994.
After retirement he continued as a night watchman with Fond du Lac County. He then started walking the block. His daily route was going through Mt. Calvary, through the Village, through Calvary Station (Puddlefort) and then back home, usually wearing a rolled-up shirt and a candy bar in hand.
He had fun doing Sudoku and word search puzzles and his Tuesday night card club at Villa Rosa. He and his wife attended as many of his children's ball games as possible and continued doing this for his grandchildren's ball games.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Myrtle "Butch"; and his sons: Michael (Donna), Patrick (Shirley) and Tom (Jody); his grandchildren: Emma Jo Olig, Matthew Olig (Katherine), Courtney (Joe) Dummer and their children: Theodore, Paxton, Lennox and Rowen, Joseph (Kelly) Olig and their children: Emmett, Eli and Jace, Kalvin (Jenny) Olig and their children: Callen and Olivia, Madison Olig and McKayla Olig (special friend, Lucas Dinh); and his brother-in-law, Jerry (Sandy) Guelig.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Emma Olig, his sister, Rosemary Konen and her husband, Gerald and their son, Daniel.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish, 308 S. Cty. Hwy. W, Mt. Calvary, WI on March 23, 2024.
A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 AM in church with Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish officiating the service.
The Olig Family would like to thank the staff at Villa Rosa for their help and support along with the SSM Hospice Group.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
