Eugene Albert "Gene" Olig Sr.

Eugene Albert "Gene" Olig, Sr., 86, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Maple Meadows Assisted Living in Fond du Lac. He was born in Fond du Lac on June 29, 1936, to Bruno and Aurelia (Hau) Olig. Gene was the first of seven children that included five sisters and one brother. He grew up in Fond du Lac where he attended St Joseph's Grade School and St Mary's Springs Academy. After graduating in 1955, Gene attended Marquette University in Milwaukee where he earned degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. He was then employed at Giddings & Lewis Machine Tool Company for 38 years. Gene married Dorothy Ann "Dottie" Freimark from Berlin, WI in October 1971.
Gene had many interests including wood working, computers, ham radio, model trains, hunting, and fishing. He was also a plumber and electrician, sharing his skills with family, friends, and co-workers. Gene had a generous heart.
Gene is survived by his wife, Dottie; his son, Eugene, Jr.; his step-children, Matthew (Chris) Rodencal, and Sherry (Steve) Maass; his siblings, Norine Rodenkirch, Joanne Thome, Carol (Greg) Olig, Rose (David) Kolstad, Sue Preiffer, and Robert (Debbie) Olig; and their families. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Paul and John; two brothers-in-law, Keith Rodenkirch, and Dennis Thome; and his niece, Carol Jean Thome.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 5:00 PM. Cremation has taken place. Burial in St. Charles Cemetery, Fond du Lac, will be held at a later date.
