Alexander Joseph May of Cuba, MO, formerly of Cape Girardeau, MO was born on Wednesday, August 11, 1954, in Sedalia, MO to Joseph Norman May and Rita Sophia May, nee Lauf. He passed away at his home in Cuba, MO on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 4 days.
Alex attended and graduated from Ritenour High School. Following graduation, he attended Rankin Trade School where he earned a certificate in auto mechanics. He spent many years working as an auto mechanic, serving Ford and Buick dealerships in Cape Girardeau, MO, as well as the golf course at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, various rental companies, Case Equipment, and lastly Blue Eye Equipment, before retiring. On August 19, 1989, Alex married the love of his life, Betty Jane Green at Cape Girardeau Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, MO. Together they built a life on love, hard work, and shared interests. He found joy in the simple things he loved most, hunting, fishing, working on cars, and playing pool. These passions reflected his hands on nature and his appreciation for time well spent doing what he enjoyed.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane May; parents Joseph Norman May and Rita Sophia May; and mother-in-law Novella Green.
Alex is survived by his sisters Kathy (John) Lichtenberg of St. Louis, MO and Sarah May of Washington, MO; brothers David (Carol) May of Eureka, MO and Danny May of Catawissa, MO; cousin/brother Jim (Kathleen) Graves of St. Louis, MO; father-in-law Eagen Green of Campbell, MO; brothers-in-law Randy (Debbie) Green and Harold Green both of Campbell, MO; sister-in-law Cindy Green of Campbell, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Following Alex's wishes, the family chose cremation as his final disposition. Private Inurnment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Oran, MO.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO.
