Alex Edward Tatem, Jr. passed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born to Alex Edward Tatem, Sr., and Lilly White Tatem on August 4, 1944.

He worked for the Addington-Beaman Lumber Company, Inc. in Norfolk, VA, and retired from DFI Systems, Inc. in Hampton, VA.

Alex enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, serving his community, and coaching softball. He was always ready to have fun and laugh. He served his community as a founding member of the Concerned Citizens Association, and the President of the Athletic Advisory Board. He was a sponsor for the Annual Berkley Thanksgiving Dinner, under the direction of Mrs. Thatch. In 2018, his work in the community led to him receiving the Foot Soldier Award from the Berkley Historical Society, earning him the title of a "Berkleyite". He was also inducted into the Virginia Amateur Softball Hall of Fame. He coached the Bobcats and Clancy's softball teams. He was known in the community for helping many people get jobs, supporting the Southside Boys and Girls Club, and obtaining resources for various community organizations. Alex was an active and faithful member of New Creation Community Church, where he led the Usher Ministry, and was a member of the Finance Team.

He is predeceased by his father, Alex Edward Tatem, Sr.; his mother, Lilly White Tatem; his brother, Ray Hassell; and his sister-in-law, Gail Tatem.

He leaves to cherish his wife, Jean (Sue); sons: Alex E. Tatem, III (Dink), and Lincorey Lucas, Sr. (Link); daughters: Paula Johnson, Andria Tatem, and Jade Williams; "Special Son": Jeff Jones; godchildren: Tishania Tatem, and Montell Simon (his "Stick Man"); grandsons: Demetrius Sanderlin-Lucas, and Lincorey Lucas, Jr.; granddaughters: Shanae Felton, Ahmon Lucas, and Jannah Covington; great-grandson: Shane Felton; great-granddaughter: Larissa Felton; brothers: Wilbert Tatem (Portia), Melvin Tatem (Jacqueline), Richard Tatem, and Jimmy Tatem; sisters: Christine Phelps, and Dorothy Tatem.

He leaves one aunt, Annie Williams (Wayman), a host of nieces and nephews: Rhonda, Valerie, Melanie, Clarence, Toni, Darius, Timmy, Kenton, Yvonne, Sundiata (Sonny), Shernice (Niecy), Terrell, Tremayne, Javon, Alisha, Tavon (Tippy), LeeVon, Tyrese, Tasha, Jimmy Jr. (JT), Cynthia (Cynt), Debbie-d., Michael, Sonya, Haynes (Butch), Anthony (Tony), Ray Jr., Christopher, Stephanie-d., Anthony Jr. (Lil Tony), Erika, Jeff, Doug, Diane, Darryl, Ben, Delisha (Lisha), Calvin (Mont), and Tenesha (Nesha Boo); and tons of cousins and special friends.
