Alex R. Velarde

Alex R. Velarde, 69 years old, has gone to the Lord on May 17, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tomasa and Alejandro Velarde; his birth mom, Margie Aldava; grandson, Demitri Valencia; and brothers, Julio Olguin Sr. and Tommy Barron.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Alice, with whom he shared 57 years together; son, Isaac (Michele); daughter, Lisa; and grandchildren, Alejandro, Arianna, Alexis, Gabriel, Brooke, Love, Harmony, Lilia, Brielle, Jimmy, and Anita; and two great-grandchildren: our precious Aleena and Kai. His siblings include Manuel Olguin, Phillip Velarde, Larry, Vincent, Paul, Esther, Pancha and brother-in-law Ruben Romero. Alex also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Alex had a full life and was a very hard worker since he was 9 years old. He had 27 years with the State Highway Department as a Highway Maintenance Superintendent. After retirement, he enjoyed working in numerous other careers.
Alex had many hobbies; he loved fishing and hunting. He was a Santero in the Spanish Market for many years, enjoyed gold panning, and was a collector of countless special items.
Alex was the patriarch of our family, and he will be truly and dearly missed.
My love, I will miss you forever. You are at peace now with our Father Almighty.
Alex's viewing will take place on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, at Berardinelli Funeral Home, beginning at 5:00 PM, followed by a rosary at 6:00 PM. The Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 11th, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with the burial service to follow at Rosario Cemetery. A reception will be hosted afterward at McGee Memorial Chapel.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Alejandro Velarde, Richard Romero, Danny Romero, Floyd Romero, Manuel Olguin, Robert Griego, Fabian Martinez, Ramon Olguin, Michael Padilla, Joey Jiron, Gabriel Valles and Isaiah Romero.
