With a content heart and with thanks for the many blessings of his life, Alexander Carl Warner, husband of Carol (Skagenberg) Warner, passed from our world on January 13, 2026.
Born on August 25,1940 in Mentor Village, to John and Margaret (Traxler) Warner. Alexander was named for his grandfather who died that very day. The youngest of 7 siblings, Alex, was instilled early with the importance of family and the responsibility of hard work.
Graduating with the Mentor class of '58, many fantastical tales were later told of a colorful childhood growing up in Mentor. Alex loved his time on the football and track teams. While the school counselor suggested perhaps further education was not in his future, Alex went on to obtain his PhD at Kent State.
While Alex loved to teach, his passion lay in the crafting of quality custom homes with his final home being built in
Canal Winchester, Ohio. One could surmise he was born with a hammer in his hand, with his ever so great grandfather being John Alden, the Mayflower ship's carpenter. Alex learned the craft from his role model and hero, his father.
Moving to Missouri for university, Alex met and married his beloved first wife Joy (Saylor). With Joy's love and devotion, they raised 3 children, moved numerous times for school/ career opportunities, and together welcomed and cared for Joy's disabled father in their family home for 20 years.
In August of 1980, Alex awoke, breathless from a dream, in tears. Jesus had appeared to him, knocked on his door and said, 'time to follow me'. Alex was baptized in May 1981.
After 46 years of marriage, Alex was left heartbroken with the tragic passing of his Joy.
Fortunately for the entire Warner family, Alex became reacquainted with the cutest girl from his Mentor Elementary. In true romantic fashion, after close to 50 years apart, Alex and Carol were married. They spent the past 18 years, creating a home, traveling, cheering on The Ohio State football, gardening and enjoying their combined families.
Alex leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Carol; children, Cheri (Bruce) Narvey, Melissa Shalagan, and Nathan Warner; stepchildren, Shawn (Polly) McCormick, Kara McCormick; 24 grandchildren, Stefanie, Daniel, Jordan, Megan and Bradley; Cody, Alix, Chelsea, Dylan, Anna, Jesse, Dustin, Julia, Clara, Colton and Anastasia; Sarah, Jared, Adam, Hannah, Nicholas, Eric, Mollie; Logan; 23 great grandchildren; 2 surviving siblings, Mary Swanson and Andrew Warner.
Alex will be missed by his in-laws and many nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart.
Love you dad. Make it be good. May his memory be a blessing.
A time for remembrance will be held at later dates in
Canal Winchester, Ohio and Springfield, Missouri.
