Fitchburg - Alexander G. Markauskas, 81, of Fitchburg, died Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2022, in the Highlands.
Alex was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, on June 13, 1941 a son of the late Aliukas & Vladispava Markauskas.
Due to the occupation of the Nazi Germany in that country, he was forced to immigrate to Pennsylvania at a very young age. He and his mother lived with his sponsors George and Louise Clothier of Ithan, Pennsylvania who treated them like family.
Alex graduated from Gerard College and then earned his bachelor degree from Fitchburg State College. He worked as an electrical engineer with the Raytheon Missile Division in Bedford prior to his retirement.
Alex was highly accomplished in martial arts. He was a Sensei of Aikido and Laido Japanese Swordsmanship. He also had a passion for fast cars, biking, hiking and archery. He cherished his wife children and grandchildren; especially Maddillynn who doted on her Papa.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Grace Mary (Mancini) Markauskas of Fitchburg; three sons, Kenneth Markauskas of Fitchburg, Michael Markauskas of Manchester, NH, Matthew Markauskas and his companion Melanie Theresa Phifer of Worcester; a daughter Cassandra Thompkins of Winchendon, MA; and three grandchildren, Maddillynn, Timothy and Aaron.
The Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd., Ayer is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements which will be held privately.
