Alfonso Zapata Ledezma, age 81, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023, at the Hospice of NWO in Perrysburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 26,1942, in Rayones, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the late Tiburcio and Guadalupe Zapata (Ledezma).
Alfonso was a loving and devoted family man known as Papi Poncho. Through his hard work and dedication, he made the American dream possible for his family. He retired from Chrysler after 23 years of service. Alfonso was a jack-of-all-trades who found pleasure in tinkering and fixing things. He enjoyed listening to music and playing musical instruments. He liked wearing his aviator Ray Bans - you would never catch him without them! He was a well-known jokester and amateur magician who kept his family entertained. He also loved playing cards with family and friends. Alfonso had a big heart and was always willing to help others in need. He will be missed dearly.
Alfonso is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria Soledad; his children Maria G. Carmona (Ignacio), Maribel Saldivar (Eberardo), Alfonso Zapata Jr. (Monica), and Veronica Sinift (Joshua); his 9 grandchildren: Antonio, Clarisa, Yulisa, Emily, Alan, A.J., Diego, Adrian, and Julian; 4 surviving brothers: Apolonio, Miguel, Manuel and Juan; 5 deceased siblings: Raymundo, Reinalda, Maria Santos, Apolonia, Epifania.
Cremation services will be provided by Habegger Cremation Services. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, 738 S. St Clair St, Toledo, OH 43609 on Saturday October 7, 2023, at 2pm followed by lunch and fellowship.
Alfonso Zapata Ledezma, de 81 años, de Toledo, Ohio, falleció pacíficamente el 28 de septiembre de 2023 en el Hospice of NWO en Perrysburg, rodeado de su querida familia. Nació el 26 de enero de 1942 en Rayones, Nuevo León, México, hijo del fallecido Tiburcio y Guadalupe Zapata (Ledezma).
Alfonso era un hombre de familia cariñoso y devoto conocido como Papi Poncho. A través de su arduo trabajo y dedicación hizo posible el sueño americano para su familia. Se retiró de Chrysler después de 23 años de servicio. Alfonso era un experto en todos los oficios que encontraba placer en retocar y arreglar cosas. Le gustaba escuchar música y tocar instrumentos musicales. Le gustaba usar sus lentes RayBan ¡nunca lo verías sin ellos! Era un conocido bromista y mago aficionado que mantenía entretenida a su familia. También le encantaba jugar a las cartas con familiares y amigos. Alfonso tenía un gran corazón y siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a los necesitados. ¡Lo extrañaremos mucho!
A Alfonso le sobreviven: su esposa durante 53 años, María Soledad; sus hijos María G. Carmona (Ignacio), Maribel Saldívar (Eberardo), Alfonso Zapata Jr. (Mónica) y Verónica Sinift (Joshua); sus 9 nietos: Antonio, Clarisa, Yulisa, Emily, Alan, A.J., Diego, Adrián y Julián; 4 hermanos supervivientes: Apolonio, Miguel, Manuel y Juan; 5 hermanos fallecidos: Raymundo, Reinalda, María Santos, Apolonia, Epifania.
Los servicios de cremación serán proporcionados por Habegger Cremation Services.
Se llevará a cabo una misa conmemorativa en la Iglesia St. Peter and St. Paul, 738 S. St Clair St, Toledo, OH 43609 el sábado 7 de octubre de 2023 a las 2 p. m., seguida de una comida y compañerismo.

I always recall Senor Zapata's smiling face whenever l saw him.
