Alfonso Jesus Zuniga, Jr. passed away on May 31, 2023, in Boerne, Texas at the age of 90. He graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Laredo, Texas and continued on to The University of Texas in Austin, where he earned a BSCE in 1953. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he was employed by Stubbs, Overbeck and Associates in 1956. In 1962, he was employed by American Steel Building Company as Chief Engineer and Vice President. From 1978 to 1988, he was Vice President of Engineering at Midwest Steel Building Company. From 1986 to 1988, he was also Vice President of American Buildings in Euphala, Alabama. After Midwest, he started his own engineering consulting firm, Hybrid Structures, Inc. from 1988 to 2016.

While in the metal building industry, he was in charge of estimating, design, and drafting, mostly specializing in larger structures with special loads and large spans. A few of those projects were Brown & Root Marine, a Libya Hangar, Assembly of God Church in Puerto Rico, and Todd Shipyards.

He was born in Laredo, Texas on August 6, 1932 to Alfonso J. Zuniga and Concepcion Quiroga. He married Dora Alicia Lopez in 1952, and together they have 6 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dora Alicia Lopez, 5 brothers, 6 sisters, and his granddaughter, Bria French. He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Zuniga, his 6 daughters, Cynthia Hall, Judith Hyde (Gary), Adriana Tucker (Johnny), Theresa French, Suzanne Zuniga (Jay), and Cecilia Zuniga, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held in the Narthex at 10:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am on June 12, 2023 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 7810 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, TX 77379. A separate graveside service will take place immediately after at 1:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060. A reception will follow at Brookside Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway (formerly FM 1960), Houston, TX 77068.

Thank you for being such a wonderful uncle to all of us. We will never forget your hugs and life lessons we received from you along the way. We will miss your beautiful smiling face and all the times we could turn to you for advice. You will continue your beautiful journey, hopefully we will cross paths again.

Uncle Poncho will be greatly missed. We spent many great times hunting in Colorado and New Mexico. He was a great man and I respected and loved him with all my heart .
He will be in my thoughts and heart forever.
