Jane Angeline Dunaway passed away surrounded by her children in Broomfield, Colorado on September 22, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. Jane was born on February 12, 1934 in Stamford, Texas to Emmet and Geneva Hardwick. She travelled about during her earlier years, following her father in his US Army and legal career. They eventually settled in Dallas, where she attended High School at Highland Park High.
After high school, she attended the University of Texas in Austin where she was named the school's outstanding female undergraduate student her senior year. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in English and served as a high-school English teacher. While in college, she met Marvin Dunaway, the love of her life, and married him a year after graduation. Marv and Jane celebrated 60 years of marriage August 3, 2017. Their love grew stronger with each passing year and was a testimony to many of God's faithfulness in their lives.
After their wedding, she and her husband moved to Galveston where he attended medical school. While in Galveston she gave birth to Cindy, the first of their five children. Following Marv's graduation from medical school, they headed to Seattle for his medical residency, and Jane gave birth to their second child, Dave, in McKinney, Texas as they travelled north. After a year of residency in Seattle, they relocated to Colorado Springs where Marv served as a US Air Force Flight Surgeon. It was there that their second son Steve, and their daughters Kathleen and Christy were born. In 1970 Marv and Jane headed north to Boulder with their dear friends Dr. Frank and Ruth Bolles, where they established a family medicine practice together. A southern belle through and through, Jane came to love life in Colorado and lived there from 1962 until her death in 2025.
For most of her kids' growing up years, Jane was a stay-at-home mom, providing a great place to grow up. After living in Boulder several years, Marv and Jane, along with several friends, bought a Christian bookstore called Loaves and Fishes, where Jane became the manager. A few years later she starting doing bookkeeping and insurance for Marv and Frank's medical practice and she served the practice well for many years.
If there was a word to describe Jane's focus in life it would be "others". One of her greatest joys in life was finding ways to encourage people and love them well. She lived the last two years of her life in a memory care facility (The Grand at Broomfield) where she was well known for trying to comfort and support her fellow residents and staff. Every morning she would head out into the halls and common areas to enjoy being with people, frequently praying for and encouraging them.
There were many things for which Jane was thankful, but the most important thing in her life was her savior Jesus Christ. She committed her life to following Jesus when she was a young girl, and her life was forever shaped by knowing she was loved by God. While in Colorado Springs, she and Marv joined other Christians in a communal living arrangement where they could share life and encourage each other in their faith; from their time in "The Home" came many lifelong friendships. When the Bolles and Dunaways moved to Boulder, they began meeting in each other's homes on Sundays to worship God together. It wasn't
long before others joined in. A church was formed, outgrew the home setting, and the members began meeting in locations around Boulder. The "Christian Home Fellowship of Boulder" continues to meet every Sunday in Erie. Jane was a woman transformed by Jesus Christ, and the impact of her life on others will be felt for generations to come.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Emmet and Geneva Hardwick, her husband Marv Dunaway, and her son, Steve Dunaway. She is survived by her sister Joan Johns, and brother Bob Hardwick (Barbara). Jane loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She leaves behind her four children: Cindy (Kevin) McGinley of Fort Collins, Colorado; Dave (Linda) Dunaway of Friday Harbor, Washington; Kathleen (Darin) Johnson of Erie, Colorado; and Christy (Dave) Glaze of Erie, Colorado. She was a loving grandparent to 20 grandchildren and great-grandma to 19 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly and faithfully supported in numerous activities and life events.
