Obituary of Alfonza R. Wells
Alfonza R. "Al" Wells, 71, of Palm Bay, FL and Troy (Lansingburgh), NY, loving sweetheart for 51 years and beloved husband for 46 years to Juanita S. Jones Wells, entered into eternal life in Troy on Monday, January 13, 2025 at his home in Troy, NY.
Born in West Palm Beach, FL, he was the son of the late Eugene and Lillie Mae Blount Wells and was a graduate of Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA and received his Associates Degree in Colorado. Al served in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant from 1970 to 1974 and received his Honorable Discharge at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey on May 31, 1974.
Mr. Wells retired from NBT Bank in Albany, NY where he was Affordable Housing Community Development Officer and had previously been employed at Pioneer Savings Bank for 19 years. Prior to having been with Pioneer Savings Bank, Al had worked with Kmart in Latham, Jamesway in Delaware, OH, Sharon, PA, Cobleskill, NY and Brockton, MA, and was the Manager Walmart for many years between their stores in East Greenbush, NY and Washington Avenue Ext. in Albany, NY.
Al loved football, to golf, fish, watch the news and Gunsmoke. He served on many community boards to include TAUM – Troy Area United Ministries, the Arbor Hill Park Community Advisory Board, was a member of the Troy Rotary Club where he was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow and served in a number of capacities including being a Coach, Mentor and Advisor with the Capital District Raptors AAU Basketball organization for many years.
Beloved husband to Juanita, devoted father of Mariah (John) Bullock, Alfonza Wells, II, Nicole (Danil) Freeman and Maurice Wells, cherished Poppy to Rashad, Anthony, Jarell, John, Alfonza, III, Janique, Janiah, Ja'loreal, Jayiona and Jayahntee, loving brother of Henrece (Dexter) Davis, Wildon (Mary) Wells, the late, Gennie Wells, the late Eugene (Lorraine) Wells, II and the late Johnny (Cerita) Wells, dear brother-in-law of Michael Jones (Gemelia), William "Irvin" Jones, Earnest Wilson (Glorietta), Tony Wilson (Jean), Sammy Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Denise Jones, Debra Wallace, the late, Pamela Wilson, adored son-in-law of the late Ernest Lee Wilson, Rosa Wilson, the late, Isaac Jones and the late Ruth A. Jones, grandson of the late Charlotte Schools, nephew of the late Aunt Pearl, also survived by a host of nieces nephews, relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and to the Home Going Service at 11:00 a.m. that morning at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115 Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182. Rev. Charles Barber, Sr., Pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Troy will officiate at the funeral home and at the cemetery.
Interment with military honors will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
