Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weil Kahn Funeral Home on Apr. 28, 2025.
Alfred Morton Cohen passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 96. Known for his curious mind, his unshakable loyalty, and his endless generosity, Alfred leaves behind a legacy not soon forgotten. A lifelong Cincinnatian, Alfred was born on February 27, 1929, the first son of Philip A. and Kathryn Levy Cohen. Alfred spent his childhood in South Avondale, with his parents, his younger brother Philip S. Cohen, and his grandfather, after whom he is named, Alfred M. Cohen. After graduating from Walnut Hills High School, Alfred studied history at Miami University, where he met his first wife, Frances (Franny) Lovett, marrying in 1952. He continued his education and received a law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He went on to work for his father as the family's third-generation lawyer at the firm now known as Cohen, Todd, Kite & Stanford, and continued to practice law for more than 60 years. Alfred and Franny welcomed two children, David P. and Kathryn A., four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Together, Alfred and Franny enjoyed travel-to the beach every summer with family, for a month-long trip to California, and Alfred even helped Franny overcome her fear of flying to travel overseas to Italy and England. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage before Franny passed away in 1995. Alfred found love again when he married his second wife, Ann Pappenheimer, happily welcoming her two daughters, Kit and Jill, into his life. They spent many years globe-trotting to New Zealand, China, Costa Rica, Eastern Europe, and many other places, and spent summers in Anne's Canadian cottage. Classic snowbirds, they spent many months of every year at their home in Naples, Florida, welcoming family and friends to visit, swim, play tennis or golf, and enjoy the weather. Sadly, Ann passed away in 2020. He was a proud lifelong member of Rockdale Temple, spent many a sunny day playing golf at Losantiville Country Club, and enjoyed playing bridge up until the end. Beyond his professional and personal achievements, Alfred will be remembered for his quick wit, his devotion to his family and friends, his unparallelled memory, and the love he spread across nine decades of life. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Franny; his second wife, Ann; his son, David; and his brother, Philip. He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Preston) Woodson; daughter-in-law Sallie Cohen; grandchildren Dan, Liz, Sarah (Nick), and Michael (Josh); and great-grandchildren Jacob, Leah, Eloise, and Imogene. He is also survived by stepdaughters, Kit and Jill.
A celebration of Alfred's life will be held on May 2, at the Weil Kahn Funeral Home (8350 Cornell Rd,
