Alfred Eberle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harder Funeral Home - Brookfield on Sep. 20, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Alfred George Eberle, Jr. was born to eternal life on September 16, 2025, at age 92. Al was born on May 21, 1933, in Peoria, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Wilhemina (Minnie) (nee Berg) and Alfred George Eberle, Sr.

He married Kathleen ("Kay") (nee Enright) on August 11, 1962 and was her beloved husband for 63 years.

Al was the kind and loving father to Joe, Ann (John) Thomas, Ed and Patrick (Tracie). He will also be remembered by close cousin Edith (the late Harold "Andy") Anderson, sisters-in-law Pat (the late Bill) Murdock and MaryAnn (the late Mickey) Armour, his nieces and nephews, and many friends. Kay, his children and their spouses will cherish their strong relationship and many good times with their father/father-in-law forever and are grateful to have had so many wonderful years with him.

He was also the awesome grandfather ("Grandpa", "Bop Bop") to his wonderful grandchildren: twins Georgia and Vivienne Thomas and Lochlan Eberle, building forts from empty boxes, putting together elaborate Thomas the Train railroad sets, and leading them out to the tall flagpole in his front yard to teach them how to raise the Stars and Stripes, a proud ritual he practiced almost every day of his life until recent months.

Al is a graduate of MUHS, '51 where he was editor-in-chief of the Hilltop yearbook and from which he received the 2004 Alumni Service Award. He graduated from the Marquette University School of Journalism in 1955, where he was a member of the Air Force Reserves. He returned there many years later for the job he enjoyed so much as the Marquette University Director of Alumni Relations. After graduating from MU he served his country in the US Army, meeting a group of wonderful men who would be his closest friends for life, known to all as "the poker club." Their activities and family friendships evolved much more deeply than just the monthly card rounds they enjoyed for a number of decades.

A man of deep faith and integrity who treated others kindly, Al was a member of St. Mary's of Elm Grove parish for almost 60 years, volunteering for 40 of those as an early morning Mass Server, and participating as a member of the Adoration Chapel, Parish Council and many committees.

He was first and foremost a family man, who loved watching Marquette Basketball, Packers and Brewers, with Kay, the kids and grandkids surrounding him. He was a master at outdoor grilling, and appreciated spending time among the flowers in the backyard of their home of almost 50 years, which he enjoyed so dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at St. Mary's Visitation Church in Elm Grove. Visitation will be held in the Atrium from 10am-11:30am with the Funeral Mass following.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary's Visitation https://stmaryeg.org/, MUHS https://www.muhs.edu/giving/give-now or Trinity Academy (https://www.trinityacademy.net/) would be most appreciated.
