Alfred Johnson, Jr., known affectionately as “June” and “Say it Loud,” entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the age of 70. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Alfred was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School (Class of ’72). He valued knowledge and pursued higher education, earning two associate’s degrees from Delgado Community College in Postal Service and Business Administration. Alfred served his country in the United States Army. After returning to civilian life, he was employed with the US Postal Service for 30 years. June was a true people-person and could always be found spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, his beloved BTW alumni, or watching sports in his mancave. He was actively involved at his church home, Hosanna Fellowship Church of Gretna, where he served as a Deacon. Alfred never met a stranger. His welcoming spirit, big smile, and friendly personality will be missed by many. Beloved husband of 46 years to Elaine Johnson. Devoted father of Shaun (Brandy) Ferguson, Anna Hart, Monica F. (Jason) Horne, Alfred (Britney) Johnson, III, and Roger (Debbie) Johnson. Loving son of Mildred Johnson, and the late Alfred Johnson, Sr. Brother of Russell Johnson, Pamela Johnson, Thelma Hunter, Chevelle, and Darlene Williams. Uncle of Deirdre J. (Dwight) Burel, whom he loved as a daughter. Nephew of Daniel (Jewel) Toomer, also survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, officers, and members of Hosanna Fellowship Church of Gretna, New Hope Baptist Church, and neighboring churches; alumni of Booker T. Washington High School; employees of the US Postal Service, NOPD, and Federal City; members of XS Martial Arts Dojo; and staff of VA Hospital are invited to a Celebration of Life at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 Reverend John Raphael Jr Way, New Orleans, LA on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Bishop Alex Bellow of Hosanna Fellowship officiating; Pastor Jamaal Weathersby Host Pastor. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the above named church. Interment: Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery-Slidell, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
