Alfred P. Keuler, of Kiel, entered eternal life on Monday, July 7, 2025, while tending to his beautiful sweet corn crop on the farm where he was born 97 years ago. He was born June 28, 1928 to the late Joseph and Christina (Woelfel) Keuler. Al attended SS. Peter and Paul grade school and St. Mary's Springs high school. On April 30, 1952 Al married Janice Herzog at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. In 1954, after returning from his military service in the Army in Germany, they farmed with his parents. In 1966, Al and Janice became sole owners of Hinzeville Holstein Dairy Farm. Together with their children, they continued to build a successful dairy operation. In the years preceding his retirement in 1993, he enjoyed mentoring and working side by side with Alan Schad and Jacki and Dave Meinert. Over the years, Al and Janice enjoyed traveling to destinations throughout the United States and to Germany. After Janice's death, Al made one last solo trip to see General Sherman at Sequoia National Park.
Al was an active and lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish. Additionally, he sang in the church choir and served as director from 1961-1991. He was a member and former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus. Al was also a member of several dairy farming organizations and recipient of numerous milk production and land conservation awards.
Even on a day he had a list of things to do, he would drop everything to visit with anyone who stopped by. Al loved to see new life: babies, birds, newborn animals, new sprouts in the garden and the fields. Anyone who knew Al heard about his garden or was a lucky recipient of some sweet corn, vegetables or raspberries. Al loved spending time on the river, fishing, duck hunting, trapping and hunting with "The Dorn Gang." For many years Al enjoyed "making wood" with many willing helpers. His children and grandchildren cherished receiving his personalized cards and letters on every birthday and anniversary.
Survivors include his seven of his nine children: Charles (Kristine) Keuler, Miller, MO, Christine Keuler, Eagan, MN, Mary (Joseph) Guidotti, Lakeville, MN, Margaret (Andrew) Feider, New Holstein, WI, Karen (Timothy) Peterson, Menasha, WI, Mark (Betsy) Keuler, Wrightstown, WI, JoAnn (Randall) Schultz, Marshfield, WI, and daughters-in-law Christine Keuler, Savannah, GA, and Peggy Keuler, Sobieski, WI. He is further survived by 23 grandchildren: Nicholas Keuler, Benjamin Keuler, Angela Freidland, Jon Freidland, Greta Schwichtenberg, Daniel (Jennie) Schwichtenberg, Anthony (Berit) Guidotti, Gina Guidotti, Lauren Feider, Joel (Danielle) Feider, Bailey (Kyle) Hoffman, Kayla (Aaron) Mencheski, Brogan Peterson, Tara Schuster, Olivia (Hunter) Schultz, Alfred (Karissa) Keuler, Margo (Jesse) Feldkamp, Hannah (Bud) Bowers, Ella Keuler, David Keuler, Sam Keuler, Eric Schultz, and Kyle Schultz, 17 great-grandchildren: Sedona, Sage, Maximus, Bodi Lee, Mirielle, Madelyn, Emma, Felix, Natalie, Brennan, Weston, Myles, Sophie, Myles, Bennett, Ralph, and Hank, two brothers: Roland (Shirley) Keuler and Richard (Sharon) Keuler, and one sister, Sr. Joneen Keuler. Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
After 61 years of marriage, his loving wife, Janice, preceded him in death on August 20, 2013. Also preceding Al in death are sons James Keuler and Michael Keuler, brother Francis Keuler, sisters-in-law Audrey Keuler, Alicia Marek, Joan Keuler, and brothers-in-law Robert Campbell, Ray Campbell, and Maynard Marek.
