Dr. Reed, a native of Anderson, SC, was a 1962 graduate of Geer Gantt High School, Belton, SC and Benedict College, Columbia, SC, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree. He earned a Master's degree from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC, Education Specialist Degree and a Doctorate Degree from the University Colorado, Boulder, CO.
Dr. Reed was an Educator, having taught in Sandersville, GA and Greenville, SC. He served as principal in Greenville County at Greenville High School and Richmond County at Hornsby Elementary School. He was a member of Alpha Mu Boule', Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., (Augusta) and Psi Omega Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Augusta) and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the trustee Ministry, Deacon Ministry, Prayer Ministry and Lydia Bible Sunday School Class Ministry.
Survivors include his wife, Florida V. Jeter Reed; a brother, Wallace Leon Reed, godson, Gary (Odara) Jeter; brothers-in-law, Garshield (Joann) Jeter, Deothus (Nezzie) Jeter, Steven Jeter and Dennis (Alfreda) Jeter; sisters-in-law, Elruby (Julius) Cates, Carolyn Jeter and Sylvia Montgomery; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday, September 6, 2024 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles E. Goodman officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 1:30 PM in Good Shephard Memorial Park (Boiling Springs, SC.) Viewing will be held from 1 - 3 pm Thursday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 pm Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Professional Services are under the care of G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary-North Augusta.
