Algirdas Kapocius Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stetson’s Funeral Home - Brunswick on Dec. 4, 2025.
BRUNSWICK - It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Algirdas K. Kapocius.

Al was born in Kaunas, Lithuania on November 11, 1939. He went through World War II in displaced persons camps and came to the U.S. in 1949, at age 10. The family lived in Dorchester, MA where Al attended school. He attended Boston University until he enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1960 becoming a helicopter pilot, which he flew until his retirement in 1983.

Following his naval career, Al worked for 10 years as a Crash Investigator at Sikorsky Helicopters in Stratford, CT, commuting home to Brunswick on weekends. After that, he worked at LL Bean for another 10 years, mostly in Returns, before retiring permanently.

In 1963 he met and married Eileen Wiesner, a mother of four small children - Larry, Lauren, Jeff and Mark. Al and Eileen added four more children - Tracy, Amy, Alan, and Matt.

While in the Navy, they lived in Lakehurst NJ, Kingsville TX, Quonset Point RI, Virginia Beach VA, and Corpus Christi TX, where Al retired. They then moved to Brunswick, ME and have lived here for 42 years.

Aside from his family, his big love was his dogs, mainly Basset Hounds, two Golden Retrievers, and a Newfie.

Al was pre-deceased by his parents Juozas and Marija Kapocius, sister Rita, and niece Maria Rita Fisher. Al is survived by his wife Eileen, children Larry Kapocius, Lauren Brubaker, Jeff Wiesner, Mark Wiesner, Tracy Kapocius, Amy Kapocius Wing, Alan Kapocius, Matt Kapocius, 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, as well as his sister Birute Pabedinskas of Chicago and her three sons, Andrius, Arunas, and Vytas.

We are very grateful for the kind and excellent care Al received at Mid Coast Hospital, Maine Medical Center, and New England Rehabilitation Hospital.

Al's visiting hours will be held at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine, on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 39 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11:00 am. A military committal service will be held in the Spring.

Please take a moment to share your memories and upload photos of Algirdas to the memorial page at www.stetsonsfuneralhome.com so we may all celebrate and remember this extraordinary man together.

Al was an outstanding cook and I was recipient of a spontaneous dinner
invitation to witness this when I arrived late in the day after driving from North Carolina.
When I was Al and Eileen's neighbor, he came over to visit and say, "Goodbye" to my sweet Soft Coated Terrier, Peggy, who was dying- a dumb but loveable creature. He was genuinely sad to see her go.
Al & Eileen's rotating gang kept them active and I pray they will add to Eileen's life as she will miss his presence. They had a house full of visiting children and grandchildren rotating in and out so their age was never that of two elderly folks sitting in rocking chairs.
Over the years, Al shared Eileen's messages with me via the internet - since Eileen was not on the computer. THANKS AL! I look
forward to continued contact (somehow) with Eileen... To the outstanding crew from the couple: Al & Eileen Kapocious - "Carry on!" That is what Al would have you do... Sending love and prayers to Eileen
and the gang of kids and grandkids...
