Lyndonville, VT: Alice Simpson Baird, age 91, of Red Village Road, died at the Pines Health & Rehab, August 27, 2024, where she had resided the past few months.
She was born on September 2, 1932, in Sheffield, VT, the daughter of the late Perley J. and Pearl (Basnar) Simpson. At the age of 11 months, she moved with her family to East Lyndon, Vermont. She attended East Lyndon Elementary School, Red Village Elementary School and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1949. On July 7, 1950, Alice was married to Richard E. Baird of East Lyndon in the East Lyndon Methodist Church, of which both were active members. They shared 74 years together at the time of his death May 8, 2024. Alice’s places of employment included Fairbanks, Morse and Co. St. Johnsbury, Vermont; Anwelt Shoe Co. Fitchburg, Mass.; Howe Scale Co. Rutland, Vermont; Goldberg’s Auto Service, Inc. St. Johnsbury, Vermont and she also worked in a partnership with her husband doing contract work for New England Telephone. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and canning. She taught Sunday school classes for many years and served as organist of East Lyndon Methodist Church for approximately 5 years, for Emmanuel Chapel for about 10 years and for East Lyndon Chapel for approximately 20 years.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and was predeceased by 3 sisters: Edith, who died at an early age, Lois Gaskin, and Eleanor Hart, and a brother, Wendell Simpson.
There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Lyndon Center Cemetery. There will be no calling hours at this time.
