Alice Berkheiser, 102, of Pottsville, died Friday, July 12 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
She was born June 3, 1922, in Palo Alto, a daughter of the late John and Marian Haffey Oldt. She was a graduate of Pottsville High School.
Alice worked as a seamstress for numerous textile factories in the area prior to retiring.
Alice was the oldest member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, Service Circle of the Kings Daughter's, where she served as chaplin, and knitted baby caps along with the late Leah Shugars at the former Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Chester Berkheiser, on Nov. 8, 1983; a granddaughter, Angie Haas; four brothers, Edward, Jack, Albert and Richard Oldt; a sister, Marian Lacey.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Haas, Jim Thorpe; Robert Berkheiser and his wife, Cathy, Allentown; Glen Berkheiser and his companion, Kathy Huntzinger, Auburn; Debbie Berkheiser and her husband, Randy Kull, Lewis, Del.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Service of remembrance will be held Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. from the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Alice be made to United Presbyterian Church, 214 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
