Alice Louise Burns, age 71, of
Bay City, Michigan, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 6, 2026. Born on July 30, 1954, in
Monroe, Michigan, Alice lived a life rooted in faith, perseverance, and unconditional love for her family.
Alice was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Clear) Burns. She was raised in
Monroe, Michigan, where she attended Monroe High School. Later in life, with great determination, she returned to her education and proudly graduated from Clare High School in 1991-the same year she learned to drive and earned her driver's license, milestones that reflected her strength and resilience.
Alice spent most of her life as a devoted homemaker, caring deeply for her children and family. She also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Ardis Nursing Home in Farwell, Michigan, where her compassion and servant's heart were evident to all she served. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Clare Public Schools and an active booster of Rocket Football in Farwell, always giving of herself to support children and community.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Alice was a devoted Apostolic believer and a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church International, worshiping in Monroe and Clare, Michigan. At the time of her passing, she was a cherished member of Bethel Ministries in Auburn, Michigan, where her faith continued to grow and her testimony shined.
Alice was previously married to George M. Brooks Sr. of
Monroe, Michigan. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children: Thomas M. Burns of
Bay City, Michigan; Caroline (Ray) Duncan of Midland, Michigan; and George (Jeanette) Brooks of Sussex, Wisconsin.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Mario Campbell of Cincinnati, Ohio; Gabriel (Esquivel) Campbell of Midland, Michigan; Landon Brooks, Seth Brooks, and Ezra Brooks, all of Sussex, Wisconsin. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Isaiah Campbell, whom she now joyfully reunites with in Heaven.
Alice shared a special role as a functioning stepmother for ten years to the children of her former companion, Roger Shafer, lovingly caring for Heather Shafer of Clare, Michigan, and honoring the memory of the late Bud Shafer of Jackson, Michigan.
She is survived by her siblings: Jack and Connie Burns of LaSalle, Michigan; Susie Parriet of
Monroe, Michigan; Gerald Burns of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Ronald Burns of
Monroe, Michigan; Dorothy Burke of
Monroe, Michigan; and Richard (Linda) Burns of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her siblings Phillip Robert (Bobby) Burns, Esther Burns, and Violet Holt, all of
Monroe, Michigan.
Alice had a gentle spirit and a joyful heart. She loved crocheting, playing Scrabble, Yahtzee, and many card and board games with her children, grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews-too many to name but all dearly loved. Later in life, when her hearing became impaired, Alice adapted with grace, communicating through handwritten letters. Every holiday, birthday, and special occasion was marked by a heartfelt letter from Alice-known affectionately by some of her grandchildren as "Grandma Apples." These letters remain treasured reminders of her love, thoughtfulness, and unwavering presence.
Above all, Alice loved the Lord. Her life reflected a quiet strength, a servant's heart, and a faith that endured through every season. As Scripture reminds us: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8)
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Ministries in Fisherville, Michigan (1492 W. Midland Rd. – Auburn, Michigan 48611). Pastor Brian Michael will officiate. Private burial will be at Fremont Cemetery.
