Alice Mary Young Carlson, 94, of Auburn, passed away on January 17, 2021 from Covid-19.
Alice was born on November 26, 1926 to Roxy Merle Young and Juliane "Lulu" Wimpelberg in Highland Park, Michigan. Her parents divorced when she was young. She grew up in Elgin and Moline, IL and had fond memories of visiting her Grandparents and playing with her cousins.
She worked as a comptometer operator for Farmall and Pabst Brewing Company in the 1940s. In 1946, she met Richard "Dick" Carlson while Roller Skating. They wed 3 months later on August 31, 1946. They had one child, Karen Lu.
In 1961, she and Dick moved to Carmichael, CA. There, Alice completed her GED – a lifelong goal. In 1979, her granddaughter Monica was born and in 1981 her grandson Matthew. They became the center of her life and she and Dick attended all of their school and sporting events always referring to them as "our kids".
Being from the Midwest, Alice loved Cardinals. She could often be seen wearing a shirt or earrings with cardinals on them - no matter what time of year it was! We will always think of her lovingly whenever we see anything with a red cardinal.
Through the years, Dick and Alice enjoyed spending time with family and friends, RVing, bowling, Jim Beam bottle collecting, attending the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee each year, and rooting for the Giants, Cubs, 49ers and Kings. Dick passed away in 2007, just after their 61 Wedding Anniversary. Alice eventually moved to Auburn, CA, nearer to Karen.
Alice was always full of life and everyone's favorite – a very special person. Those that knew her always commented on her wonderful smile. She consistently demonstrated that family comes first and she was always there to support any of us that needed it. Alice is remembered as a strong and resilient person, surviving breast cancer twice and pulmonary embolisms twice.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Richard, her sister Grace, and her parents, Roxy and Lulu. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Jim) Aumond, granddaughter Monica (Travis) Moses, grandson Matthew (Emily) Dallosta, great-grandsons Jackson Moses, Dominic and Zachary Dallosta. She was a cherished Aunt to her beloved niece Candis (Ken) Scott, Talli (Kiley) Laughlin, and Justin Fankell. Alice also leaves many others whose love and friendship she cherished and who will miss her presence.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Alice will be inurned alongside Richard at the Fair Oaks Cemetery, Fair Oaks, CA.
