Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory - LynchburgAlice Louise Carrick, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on August 19th surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, tenacity, and strength. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Gerald “Jerry” Carrick, and her two siblings, Carl Funkhouser and Phyllis Smith. She now rests in peace with God and with her family that passed before her.
Alice was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. Her life was centered around her faith in God, learning and education, and the joy she found in being with family. She was a high-school English teacher whose enjoyment of correcting people’s grammar lasted long past her retirement.
She is survived by her 3 children, Sean (Tammy), David (Kathy), and Amy (Timur); 12 grandchildren, Meagan, Brendan, Jacob (Rachel), Abigail (Kaleb), Liz (Seth), Faith (Ryan), Anna, Liesel, Benjamin, Jonah, Caleb and Rebecca, as well as her new great-granddaughter, Flora, all of whom carry forward her memory and unwavering spirit.
Alice’s strong presence, steady wisdom, and steadfast love touched the lives of many. Whether through a kind word, a humorous quip, or a shared moment around the family table, she made everyone feel valued and loved. Her absence will be felt deeply, but her legacy lives on in the generations she helped to shape and in the countless lives she quietly and profoundly influenced.
The family wishes to thank her church, Grace OPC, for their consistent love and support to Alice and her family, even when she was unable to attend services. The family also expresses sincere gratitude to Angel Camden, Dr. Suzanne Kryzyzanowski, and Centra Hospice for their continuous and loving care during her last 6 months with us.
Alice's Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church on September 13th at 1:00 PM. Per Alice’s request, please feel free to wear blue to her funeral as it was her favorite color and brought her much happiness.
