Alice Conlin Obituary

Alice Marie Conlin, age 89, surrounded by the love of family, was peacefully called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Alice was born on April 4, 1936 in Green Bay, Wisconsin the daughter of Genevieve and Leonard Hearden. At an early age she earned the nickname "Sugar" from her father because she was so sweet! She graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1954. She moved to Illinois and earned her RN degree from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing. While in school, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life James Edward Conlin. Even though Jim was an avid Bears fan and Alice an avid Packer fan, their love was stronger than either's allegiance and they married on November 16, 1957. Moving to Glenview after their wedding, they became actively involved with Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish and school while raising their five children.

Alice was a school nurse at Westbrook School in Glenview for 21 years. She served as President for the Nurses Association and volunteered at the Glenview Loan Closet which provided medical equipment to those in need. Alice's nursing skills were called upon while chaperoning the Glenbrook South Master singers on a trip to Florida. She took care of many sunburned singers! Alice put her love of gardening to use volunteering at Chicago Botanical Garden, and was active at Glenview Senior Citizen Center. An avid reader, she could tell you every detail from any book she had read, as well as all details from her many travels she and Jim went on.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Genevieve and Leonard Hearden, loving husband James Edward of 51 years, sisters Genevieve Linsdau and Margaret "Peggy" Hoeffel, brother William "Bill" Hearden, brother-in-law Thomas Linsdau and grandson Matthew Conlin.

Alice is loved by her children Patrick(Therese), Mary (William) Hoft, Michael, Thomas (Valerie), and Brian (Janet); proud grandmother of Jessica, Daniel, Megan, Peter, William, Sean, Troy, and Aidan; and great-grandmother of Adelynn, Eloise, Theodore, Henry, Asher, Noah, Elliot, Leon, and Tallulah. Additionally she is survived by her brother Patrick Hearden and sister-in-law Patricia Hearden.

Her children would like to thank Mom for her love and support. She taught us how to work hard, enjoy the outdoors, travel, love each other, live the Catholic faith, and enjoy all things Irish!

Visitation will be Sunday, September 21 from 1 to 6 pm. at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview. On Monday, September 22, visitation will be held from 9:15-10:00 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church followed by a mass at 10:00 am, 1123 Church St., Glenview. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.

Sugar was a very dear friend of mine since we were 3 years old - went to St. Patricks grade school together and then West High School - very close all those years. We remained close friends forever. I am very sad that she died.
