Krystyna Marchut Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Krystyna (Christine) Marchut (nee Kolasa) on August 24, 2025. She was born on October 15, 1927 in Lask, Poland. Nearly two years shy of reaching sto lat (100 years,) she made it to 97 with vigor and laughter.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Marchut, parents, Walenty and Stanislawa Kolasa, and siblings Barbara, Edward, Chester, Miecia, and Stas. She is survived by her two daughters Harriet (the late Tom) Durniat and Donna (Phil) OBrill. Treasured and loving Grandmother to Cherie (Jerry) Corbisiero, Nikki (Danny) Durniat-Salvato, and Dani (Ben) Harper. Wonderful Great-Grandmother to Julia and Xander Corbisiero, and Eli and Natalie Harper. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Friend and 'Babcia' to all.

Krystyna was a force to be reckoned with. She was the definition of a fighter, while simultaneously having a generous heart and kind nature. After surviving the turmoil of WWII in Poland and Germany, she immigrated to America and laid roots in Chicago, Illinois. Losing her husband at a young age, she was incredibly independent with true grit and a strong work ethic. She was proud of the 44 years of her work at Zenith, and often reminisced how she was the one who kept everything running smoothly.

Krystyna was a lover of sunshine, gardening, and all things sweet. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and an occasional casino trip with friends. But most of all, she loved time spent with her family. She could always be counted on, and with a smile so big and bright, it would light up any room and make your day a 'lily' bit sunnier.

We love you yesterday

We love you today

We love you tomorrow

Though it feels cloudy and gray now, you blessed us with love, and we know the sun will come out tomorrow

Our beautiful, powerhouse of a matriarch, may you rest in eternal peace and endless sunshine among the flowers.
