Heaven has just gotten a new Angel. Alice Jewell Williams Cox passed away peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama on December 27, 2024. A celebration of 97 years of Life will be Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Taylorville Methodist Church. The service will be at 2:00 pm and visitation one hour prior to the service.
Born July 21, 1927, in Aliceville, Alabama, she is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Curry and Alice Roebuck Williams, her husband James Ware Cox, Jr., her son James (Jim) Ware Cox III, her son-in-law Dr. David Harding, and sister-in-law Sara Cox Spiller (Jack).
She is survived by her daughters, Connie Cox Spiller (Mike), Cynthia Cox Harding, brother Manly N. Williams (Wilma), daughter-in-law Tina Cox, grand children, Michael Shane Spiller (Emily), Alice Paige Spiller, David Christopher Harding (Kimberly), Joseph Keaton Harding (Rebecca Jane), James Ware Cox IV (Kelly), John Hans Poulsen Cox (Sarah), twelve great grand children, and several nieces and nephews. This family loved Momma Alice.
Ms. Alice graduated from Aliceville High School and Judson College before starting her working career as administrative assistant at Thermogas where her husband was the manager. She retired from The University of Alabama having been assistant to Dr. H. Boschung and Dr. D. Jones.
Ms. Alice served her church, Taylorville Methodist, for many years, in many ways, including President of the Women's Society, Sunday School teacher, and star soprano soloist.
As President of the Taylorville Elementary School PTA, she served as Chairman of the Tuscaloosa Horse Show sponsored by the PTA. Momma Alice loved the beach and her friends there. She was a steady radiant of light, defining the profile of a true Southern Lady. Her charm was genuine and easily detected by all those around her. The wonderful staffs at Forest Manor and Capstone Village Traditions Way fell captive to her gentle love and returned the favor. She will be missed.
The family thanks Hospice of West Alabama for their loving, professional care. As per her wishes, memorials may be sent to Taylorville Methodist Church, 640 Bear Creek Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
