Alice Jean Crow, 94, formerly of Masontown, WV, passed away peacefully Friday, September 26, 2025, in New Smyrna Beach Florida.
Alice was truly a daughter of the West Virginia Hills. Her roots ran deep in that area, and she never lost her affinity for the green rolling hills of West Virginia, even though she spent much of her later years in Florida. Those hills were always home for her. When asked where she was from, she always responded – "West Virginia" even though her physical address was Mims, Florida.
Service to others was part of her life. With great pride she served as volunteer and then president of the Women's Auxiliary at Monongalia Hospital. It was just not her volunteer work, but it was how she lived her life. If a neighbor's child had interest in bugs? Alice would ensure a bug book would be in that child's hands shortly thereafter. She had the never-ending desire to nurture any child's interest.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Crow Rogers; son-in-law, Richard Rogers; son, Lon Russell Crow; granddaughter, Kathryn and her husband, Daryl Wycoff and great granddaughter, Lirael. Alice's cousins still sprinkle the hills of Monongalia, Preston and Tucker Counties, West Virginia.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence Crow and her daughter-in-law, Mariam Mani.
She will rest beside her husband back in the hills of West Virginia. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service. Alice always loved tending to her flower garden-but never cared about receiving flowers on her birthday or Mother's Day. She thought them a waste of money. So please, no flowers in response to her passing. But if you happen to meet a child who's fascinated by bugs, buy them a bug book. That would have made her smile.
The Field Funeral Home in Masontown is honored to assist Alice's family at this time.
